Happy New Year!

The end of one year...the beginning of another one.

Today doesn't really feel a whole lot different than yesterday other than I didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night.

So i think I am getting injured or something. My knee has been acting up on me during the last week and then yesterdays run was horrible. The pain is no longer in my knee but in my muschle just above the knee. Constant ache and when I get up to stand on it it hurts and i have to limp until i get my legs under me. grr. ice and motrin are my friends

But anyhow, I had a Holiday Running challenge to finish up and another challenge to begin so I grabbed the leash and the dog and set out to get at least 1.5 miles in. I ended up going 1.81 miles with a 17 minute pace, which isnt bad  considering how much i had to stop to let my dog sniff. After I came home to log my final miles for the holiday running challege, I realized I beat my goal by 1.2 miles. When the holiday running challenge came about, I set a goal for 40 miles, which was a high goal considering that I had only been running for a week and was barely getting 1.7 miles on a long day. Even though I finished dead last for my team in my age group, I still beat my goal, which makes me feel good. I just wish I could have finished it on a running day rather than a limping day.

Next challenge: the John Bingham 100 Day Challenge. Essentially I have committed to moving every day for 100 days for a minimum of 30 minutes. I plan on using that to put more running than walking in my workouts. Plus on the days that I am resting, I have my Wii Fit and my Biggest Loser game or my skating so I am fairly confident I can make it.

I also know that my friends are making goals for themselves for running. I am hoping to top 600 miles on the year, complete 4 5ks, complete the Marine Corps 10k in Washington DC, and extend myself out where it's within my reach to do either the Disney or the St. Petersburg half marathon in the first part of 2013.

Wish me luck. Now off to ice the leg....

  2. You're doing great! Keep an eye on that knee. Better to take a few extra rest days now than to jeopardize your goals for the year.

  3. I signed up for the 100 day challenge because of you :)

Congrats on surpassing your goal. 40 miles is a lot. Im sure it took me forever to go 40 miles when I first started. You are doing great. Hope the knee continues to heal and doesnt bother you.
